Overview
This rosy tetra with a black, white-edged dorsal fin looks almost identical to Hyphessobrycon bentosi, of which it was long considered a subspecies; H. bentosi has a dark mark just behind the gill cover, absent in H. rosaceus. Fish in the trade come from farms.

Observations (GBIF) and localities Native countries Rivers and lakes
It lives mainly in forest, in slow tributaries away from the main channels, in water stained brown by tannins and very acidic.
Behaviour
Very peaceful, it copes poorly with boisterous or much larger companions. Keep it with other small South American fish (tetras, pencilfish, Apistogramma, Corydoras, small Loricariidae), or in a community tank with small Rasbora, barbs, anabantoids and Pelvicachromis. Keep it in a shoal. It eats small invertebrates: dry food and small live or frozen prey.
