Natural habitat

Observations (GBIF) and localities Native countries Rivers and lakes

It lives in temporary swamps, raffia palm swamps and slow streams in the coastal rainforest. It is not an annual killifish: its eggs, laid in the substrate, incubate for about two months.

Behaviour

It lives with peaceful species too large to be eaten (calm cichlids, large characins, Corydoras, Loricariidae). Males fight: space is needed to keep several, and two to three females per male. It feeds on small live or frozen prey and rarely accepts dry food.
