Overview
Its name (“white-edged”) refers to the white border of its fins. With B. channoides, it forms a small species group that differs from other Betta in colouring and in having 9 to 12 spines in the anal fin. Listed as endangered, it is known from a single basin in Borneo.

Observations (GBIF) and localities Native countries Rivers and lakes
It lives in forest streams with a moderate current, in barely 5 to 10 cm of water, among the roots of bank plants and leaf litter.
Behaviour
Tiny and discreet, it is kept alone or with small, peaceful species; larger or lively fish intimidate it. It lives in pairs or small groups. It feeds on insects and small invertebrates: it accepts dry food once it recognises it, but needs live or frozen prey. It also breathes air at the surface.
