This striped kribensis, with a well-marked upper lip that is often bright yellow, comes in more than a dozen geographic forms (“Nigeria Red”, “Calabar”...), which should not be crossed with each other. Observations (GBIF) and localities Native countries Rivers and lakes
It lives in calm or slow forest streams and rivers, often heavily vegetated. It spawns in a cave and guards its fry.
Behaviour
Recommended for community tanks, but territorial when breeding. Shy, it should not live with lively or large species: small characins, barbs, Danio, Rasbora, Corydoras, gouramis, Loricariidae, or other West African dwarf cichlids with enough space. Keep it as a pair. It accepts most foods, especially live and frozen prey.
