Observations (GBIF) and localities Native countries Rivers and lakes
It lives mainly in slow tributaries, side channels and forest lakes, often near roots, fallen branches, bank vegetation or aquatic plants. The water, almost free of minerals, is stained brown by tannins.
Behaviour
Peaceful, it suits a well-planned community tank, but adult males are slightly territorial, sometimes towards species of the same shape. Keep it with characins of similar size, hatchetfish, pencilfish, Corydoras or small Loricariidae and non-predatory cichlids. In a mixed group of at least 8 to 10. An opportunistic omnivore, mainly a fruit eater in the wild: varied food.
