Observations (GBIF) and localities Native countries Rivers and lakes
It is only known from the basins of the ríos Guaytiquía and Metica, in the upper Río Meta, a tributary of the Orinoco in Colombia.
Behaviour
It is kept with one male for several females; the female lays her eggs on the ceiling of a cave and cares for eggs and larvae alone. Aquarium-bred fish do well in a peaceful community tank, wild ones rather alone or with small midwater fish, without other Apistogramma. Mostly carnivorous, it needs live or frozen prey.
