Overview

Despite its narrow leaves set in two rows, this Asian plant is not a grass. It grows in rice fields, ditches and damp banks, where its stems float near the surface before rising at their tips. It can also grow fully submerged in the aquarium.

An aquarium plant must never reach the wild: throwing away cuttings or emptying a tank into a stream can be enough to establish it.

Growing in the aquarium

Provide medium to strong light and room for fast growth. Cuttings let you renew the group of stems. The land form is creeping, while the shoots can stand up at the surface: watch their direction to choose the trimming height and keep the outline you want in the tank.
