Overview
Its small, fine leaves give the stems the light look of a moss, although it is a stem plant. This Mayaca from warm regions of the Americas grows above as well as below water, notably on the banks of small dark streams. It brings a soft texture to a planted layout.

An aquarium plant must never reach the wild: throwing away cuttings or emptying a tank into a stream can be enough to establish it.

Growing in the aquarium
It prefers soft, acidic water, while being able to adapt to harder water. Good light, CO₂ and balanced feeding support its growth. Tips turning very pale can reveal a lack of iron. Take cuttings of healthy shoots to rejuvenate the stand and keep the foliage even.
