Overview
This widespread aquatic moss forms shoots with flattened foliage that can grow fairly horizontal when the light allows. Its look depends a great deal on conditions. It is often called “Stringy Moss”, but the strictly upright moss sold under that name may belong to Drepanocladus aduncus.

Growing in the aquarium
It suits cool tanks as well as moderately warm tropical aquariums. Tie the tufts to wood or stone, then divide them to extend the planting. Do not promise an upright habit from the trade name alone: the same moss changes shape with the light, and several related species are confused in the trade.
