Overview
This creeping pennywort bears small round leaves, much more modest than those of H. leucocephala. Its stems advance over the ground and can form a fine cover. It is also found under the trade name “Hydrocotyle maritima”, which can however refer to other plants.

An aquarium plant must never reach the wild: throwing away cuttings or emptying a tank into a stream can be enough to establish it.

Growing in the aquarium
Underwater it needs strong light, CO₂ and a regular supply of nutrients. It does not suit a dark tank without growth support. Side shoots serve as cuttings. Emersed growing can quickly provide fragments to replant, but this land behaviour must not suggest that growing it underwater is as undemanding.
