Overview

Very upright stems and fine foliage give the group a graphic look, close to needle-like vegetation. The source description tells how it spread from India under the names Pogostemon erectus and, before that, Rotala verticillaris. Emersed plants bear spikes of purple flowers, unlike those of Rotala.

Growing in the aquarium

Provide medium to strong light and a place in the midground or background for the upright shoots. Cuttings let you renew the group. Keep track of the name you bought it under: its trade history and changes of name explain why older profiles do not always use the name found in this catalogue.
