Overview

Underwater this North American plant forms smaller, more compact shoots than its land form. Its light green, lance-shaped, toothed leaves give the stand a crisp texture. In natural wetlands it grows flower stalks and can take on pink or red autumn colours.

Growing in the aquarium

It can be grown submerged, but is less documented than classic stem plants. Provide strong light and follow how the new shoots develop. Division and cuttings let you propagate it. A plant sold for a pond edge will look different from how it grows underwater.
