Overview

This nerite from Java has an orange-brown shell crossed by broken black bands. It often lives near the surface, in mangroves and slow coastal streams. Its variable patterns call for a more precise identification than a generic trade name.

Natural habitat

Endemic to the island of Java (Indonesia), according to Fishipedia

Observations (GBIF) and localities Native countries Rivers and lakes

Care and setup

A mature tank with a lid limits the risks of starvation and escape. Avoid snail-hunting fish and check individuals weakened by transport.

Feeding

It grazes algae; the suitable fresh vegetables described by the source can be used as a supplement.

Breeding

The eggs are laid on surfaces. The larvae continue their development at sea before the young return to fresh water.
